Thanks Mom!

Since it is Mother's Day I wanted to take the time to thank my mom for all that she has done and still does.
Thanks mom! You are truly wonderful. I am so thankful to have you in my life (and my children's lives). You gave up many years (at least 20 or 21 years I think) to stay home with all four of us. Thank you so much! I always remember you being a joyful presence in our home. I only hope that my boys will remember me the same way (although anyone who knows us both is aware that I am MUCH moodier than you!). Your love for the Lord and your love for your family has and does shine through. Thank you for always supporting me and being a wonderful example of a true mother. I can't wait to see you in a few weeks!

So Much to Do!

Since finding out that we are having a boy the nesting instinct has already started kicking in! I am completely motivated to start getting Micah's room ready and the house situated to welcome a new baby. Part of my motivation is also due to the fact that Elias and I will be gone to Texas for 3 weeks in June. I am SO excited to see our family, but I know it will be torture for Elias and I to be away from Gus (and vice versa). We will just have to fill our time there with fun activities with the family.
Today I have already started preparing for our sweet Micah by:
-Starting to clean out his room which is now our guest room/office. I will be having a HUGE garage sell very soon.
-I found a few paint colors that I like. Gus has promised to paint the room while I am gone. Elias' room is blue so we are going with an olive green color for Micah.
-Elias and I found some great things for Micah's room at Hobby Lobby. It was all on sale so I got $50 worth of wall decorations for only $25! They are so cute! Micah will get all of Elias' baby furniture and bedding, but I want his room to look somewhat different with new decorations and paint.
-I even cleaned out my closet and managed to part with a few pairs of shoes that I haven't worn in years. (Why do I find it so hard to get rid of shoes?).

That is pretty good progress for one day! I am itching to get all of Elias' old clothes out of the attic, but Micah's closet and room needs a little more clearing up. I guess that can wait for another day.

Now to change the subject. I haven't updated lately about Elias' potty training progress. Well the kid has been 100% potty trained since about day 2 when it comes to peeing. This past week he even woke up most mornings with his diaper completely dry! We have still been putting a diaper on him because night training is not something we have focused on. It looks like he will have that down very soon. However, I must admit that pooping is not going quite as well. He only poops on the potty about once a week. He just HATES to do it on the potty. We have tried a couple of things, but nothing is working. We are not really pushing him (yet) because I know that it takes time. I am hoping that in a few more weeks he will figure out that pooping on the potty is much better than going in his underwear!

The Results Are In

Today was the big day. We found out (for sure) that we are indeed having a PERFECTLY HEALTHY baby BOY! I am so relieved to know for sure. Now I can proceed with planning and nesting. We are (of course) extremely excited about this new little boy. Being in a house filled with boys is nothing new to me. I grew up with 3 brothers, and quickly learned that there are great advantages to being the only girl. I have always thought I would have a couple of boys of my own! We are thankful and proud to announce that Micah Thomas Garcia is due to arrive around September 29! Now I must go pick out paint for his room.

Must! Wear! Maternity! Pants!

It's been awhile, so this could be long!
Here I am almost 19 weeks pregnant, and I have held onto my regular pants for as long as I comfortably could, but the time has come to resign some of them to the closet for a few (hopefully only a few) months. I can still wear most of my jeans due to a great little product I found at Target called the Bee Band. However even with this great little invention I feel as if I am suffocating my child every time I sit down!
At first I thought this pregnancy was EXACTLY like my last one, but it is turning out to be quite different. I am STILL throwing up a few times a week and feeling rather nauseous in the mornings. Last time I was over that phase by 12 weeks. I am also already feeling VERY uncomfortable and not sleeping well. Gus has even been sleeping in the guest room some nights because I move around so much and use so many pillows. (Don't worry, this is only so we can both sleep better. I am still head-over-heels in love with him, but we need good sleep.) With my first pregnancy I did not mind the way my body expanded and changed. I actually thought I looked pretty cute with my basketball belly. This time I feel HUGE and really don't like the way I look or the way any clothes look on me.
However, despite all of these complaints Gus and I already adore this little baby and can't wait to meet him. Sometimes I get wary in my discomfort and sickness and then I feel a little kick or movement and all the complaints are replaced with joy. It is so amazing how those little movements take me by surprise and get my attention every time. I do truly LOVE that part. Thankfully I am starting to feel them more each day. I can't wait until Gus and Elias can feel the baby move. On Wednesday we will have another ultrasound to confirm our suspicions that this is a little boy. We already call him by name and Elias tells everyone that he is having a "baby brudda".
To wrap things up I can only say that God is good and He has blessed me immensely! My husband is amazing (I could seriously go on with a total mushy, gushy post on this point alone.), Elias is such a joy, and this baby is a great unexpected blessing!

Easter!

Matthew 28
The Resurrection
1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

We serve a risen Savior! He has blessed us with his love, mercy, grace, and this adorable little man!

God is so good!

Way WAY Too Close!

I officially survived the scariest moment of my life! Here is the whole terrifying story.

We spent the morning running errands so we never listened to the weather reports coming in. We left WalMart and Gus decided that he needed to go out to the new church property to check on something. It is only about 1.5 miles from our house so headed down Hwy 96. As we approach the property I see a cloud that looks pretty dark and is really low to the ground. It is partially hidden behind a huge hill so I can't see the whole thing. I say to Gus, "That cloud looks really low. You should hurry up so we can get home. I don't like the way that looks." We get to the property and Gus spends about 4-5 minutes moving some things around. He jumps back in the car and we head home. As we get back on Hwy 96 to head home Gus looks in the rear view mirror and I see a funny look come over his face. He tells me, "Don't look back there". Of course I look back and then I see it. A swirling, twisting tornado is LITERALLY less than a mile behind us! I begin to panic and yell for him to hurry and get us home. We had to make a quick decision to pull over or keep going and get home. Gus decided to just go home since we were close and honestly I just wanted to get Elias inside. The whole way he kept checking behind us and telling me, "DON'T look back!" I actually had no desire whatsoever to look what was coming towards us, so I did not look. (He later told me it actually got even closer to us.) We made it home and rushed into our master bathroom (it has no windows or exterior walls) with our pillows and blankets (just in case we needed to cover our heads). Within minutes the power went out. We stayed there about 30 minutes until we were sure it had passed us. Thankfully our neighborhood did not get any damage. However only about 1 mile away houses were completely destroyed. Had the twister changed its course only SLIGHTLY we would have been directly in its path. Sadly over 100 houses were damaged in Murfreesboro today and many were people injured. It has been an incredibly terrifying day, but we are so thankful to all be safe. Gus has been at the church all afternoon helping to coordinate relief efforts and will be doing the same tomorrow. A neighborhood very near the church was completely wiped out. That is also where the 2 fatalities occurred.
I cannot believe that we came face to face with a tornado today!

Baby update!

I FINALLY had my first appointment today with my OB. It went even better than I ever expected. After checking me out she told me that I was either farther along than I thought or there was more than 1 baby in there! That meant that she got me in for an unexpected ultrasound. Thankfully the ultrasound tech quickly let me know that there was only 1 sweet baby in there. Whew! That was a huge relief! Of course the best news of all is that according to all they can see and measure Baby Garcia is perfect. However, I am a little farther along than previously thought. She moved my due date from Oct 10 to Sept 29. That means I just lost 1.5 weeks of my pregnancy and am already in the 2nd trimester. We also got to try to peek at the gender. The tech thinks it is a BOY! We did not get a great shot of those parts, but she thinks she saw something. We will go back in 4 weeks to confirm with another ultrasound. I love the thought of having another boy! I can't wait to get out all of Elias' old clothes and get them ready for his little brother. What an exciting day!
